The Rangers had a bunch of work to do, getting some contracts signed by key youngins. They signed JT Miller for 2 years with a $2.75 million cap hit. That was pretty important. Today, they brought in Chris Kreider for 4 years, which is around $4.6 million on the cap. We needed to sign CK, but that figure was a bit high for me. It’s still less than the $4.75m that CK wanted (he actually wanted $5.25m if it were going to be a long-term deal). Now, they’ve signed the 3rd ‘big’ piece, Kevin Hayes (meh), for 2 years with a $2.6 cap hit.

Kreider & Miller are definitely worth signing
I guess it’s NYR style to get everyone signed to short deals right before arbitration starts; or that’s the pundit opinion at least. Something else that I think is NYR style, is to make bad trades. Now that everyone is signed, I’m on the edge of my seat, wondering what good-potential player they are getting ready to deal away in favor of some mistake.
The Rangers have 14 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies with around $3 million left on the cap. Everybody knows they want to use it. They’ve made a bunch of space by sending away Brassard in favor of Mika Zibanejad earlier this week. I really like Brass, but I hope it works out with Zibanejad now, and I think it’s possible as long as he doesn’t need to be the top center. But what are they going to do now? Trade a young buck and draft picks for someone’s washed out ‘star’?
Ugh! I hope not. Staying tuned.

Good ole Brass, headed out to Ottawa to see if they can be winners this year.
