For a country that loves individualism, there’s a surprising amount of lemmings
We went out today, manning a table at a local festival in support of Bernie. He has a ton of support around here, as shown by the crowds of people coming to our booth. I chatted with countless voters, some decided, some not. One thing that was extremely apparent to me, is that a lot of Clinton supporters don’t really have a good reason to be a Clinton supporter. Unless, somehow, they are all being extremely secretive about their motivations. (If you really support a candidate, why would you be scared to tell people why? Hmmm.)
My favorite question for the Clinton supporters was: “may I ask why?” I was amazed at the lack of conviction these folks displayed. One lady told me “because she is a woman.” When asked if she had any other reason, she said “she is good with the immigration.” Amazing! People who care about immigration don’t know who the strongest candidate is on pro-immigration. Another person thought we couldn’t afford any of Bernie’s proposals. The poor guy had no idea how much of his taxes go to military expenditures.
The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. John F. Kennedy
This is a true testament to the need for civics education in this country. Americans don’t know how the government works. And they don’t care to learn because they accept whatever the TV feeds them. However, I’m glad to have helped so many people find understanding today. It was time well spent; truly worthwhile. When you see the wheels turning inside of someone’s head as you lay out logic and reason for them, it is inspiring.
Our table was MUCH more active than the Hillary table across from us, which I attribute to the clear advantage we had in volunteers and enthusiasm. Let’s be honest, rational people who are voting for Hillary, already know that they have to hold their noses while doing it. They just haven’t gotten the information they need to realize there is a better choice. As more informed generations rise up, America is set to move in the right direction. Never has it been more clear to me that, once independent media catches up with corporate media, the revolution will be to your left.
